ELC ANNUAL APPEAL
Give the gift of education, conservation and wellness to our community & the Indian River Lagoon!
The Environmental Learning Center (ELC) was founded in 1988 by a group of environmentally conscious pioneers from the Pelican Island Audubon Society, who lived in our community and cherished the nature that thrives in the Indian River Lagoon. Through the support of our community, we are able to build our educational nature learning and stewardship programs and bring enriching opportunities to all, including those with limited means and access to nature.
For over 30 years, the ELC has worked to educate, inspire and empower all people to be active stewards of the environment and their own well-being. Our 64-acre, lagoon-island campus includes native plant gardens, miles of boardwalk through mangrove forests, kayaks and canoe rentals, a children’s play area and many other amenities that allow people to unplug, discover and connect with our environment.
Examples of what your donation can do:
Sponsor environmental education community programming ($250 per program)
Send 10 children to camp ($2,600)
Underwrite a summer intern ($4,000 per intern)
Help improve our aquarium display ($5,000)
Implement a Community Science Display in our Discovery Station ($8,000)
As we look to the future in 2020, would you please consider making a gift in support of ELC’s mission? Your gift has the power to be transformative. Every dollar matters in our efforts to honor our legacy while accommodating the many changes that are planned for ELC in 2020.
Walking the trails together at the Environmental Learning Center last week, we talked about the 30-year history of the ELC and segued into our Vision for the first quarter of the 21st Century. It's a new day at ELC, with a dynamic master plan and new personnel providing diverse experience and a fresh perspective on enhancing our mission’s implementation. The ELC is a community asset. With your help, the organization’s evolutionary plan will stay true to its core environmental values while expanding its relevance to and impact on the people of Indian River County.
Your gift made to the Annual Appeal will enable us to continue to inspire, educate and empower all who participate in educational programs to protect and preserve our shared environment. Together our actions will determine the world and environment future generations inherit.
With kind regards,
