From peperomia covered forest floors to massive Gumbo Limbos and the threatened (and not so easy to find!) satinleaf tree (Chrysophyllum oliviforme), this 1.5 mile scenic loop walk through one of the most beautiful and diverse maritime hammocks in Central Florida will be a truly tropical experience. Witness first-hand the effects of sea level rise on our native plant communities while walking through mostly shady hammock, mangrove forest and coastal strand.

Meet at the parking lot in front of Bayside Marina located at 9502 S Highway A1A, Melbourne Beach, FL 32951. One mile north of the Sebastian Inlet bridge. Bring water and mosquito repellant.

December 11th from 9-10:30 AM ~ North Sebastian Conservation Area

This 407 acre property offers a mosaic of different habitat types including one of the healthiest and most biodiverse sand pine scrub and oak scrub on the treasure coast, that are also home to the endangered scrub jay, as well as a beautiful freshwater marsh. This 2 mile loop walk will be easily accessible from US1.

Meet at the parking lot on Gibson Street, next to the Sebastian River Art Club, 1245 Main Street, Sebastian. Please bring water and proper sun protection, especially a hat and sun screen as needed.

January 11th from 9-10:30 AM ~ Ansin Riverfront Conservation Area

Join us on this easy one mile in-an-out hike that comprises beautiful mesic hammock and scrub habitat, adjacent to the Sebastian River. Giant swamp hickory, bromeliad laden oaks and Florida wild olive trees will shade our walk while we will also be talking about the different species of epiphytes (plants that grow primarily on the surface of trees) that are native to Florida and how they interact with their environment.

Specific meeting directions will be given after you register. Please bring water and mosquito spray.
