The ELC is committed to creating environmental stewards who will restore, conserve, and protect our Indian River Lagoon!
To celebrate National Estuaries Week the ELC will be highlighting some of the natural wonders found in our Indian River Lagoon, an estuary of national significance.
Oysters of the Indian River Lagoon
This summer the ELC hosted 3 environmental education interns who had an up-close experience with the oysters in the Indian River Lagoon. They took a trip with our local Florida Department of Environmental Protection out into the lagoon to help relocate an oyster colony that was in danger from the proposed building of a railroad bridge. Moving the oysters gave these science girls a chance to learn more about oysters that they are sharing with this presentation.
