A free nature enrichment and early literacy program for children 18 months to 4 years old and their parents, grandparents, and guardians.
Nature classes benefit toddlers
Studies show that outdoor exposure benefits humans in so many ways, yet we do not spend nearly enough time outside. This is especially true for toddlers who desperately need meaningful opportunities to participate in nature play and exploration. Outdoor education and nature play have been linked to increases in problem-solving, creativity, and social skills, all of which are keystones to student success in primary school and beyond.
Develop literacy skills in toddlers with nature
Learning in natural environments provides a rich context for language skill development, and the ELC campus offers an array of learning opportunities with access to natural features, such as a freshwater pond and mangrove forests, as well as campus features designed to facilitate early childhood nature play.
Through the Little Wonders program at the Environmental Learning Center in Vero Beach, children will have opportunities to:
engage in reciprocal dialogue with educators and caregivers about complex environments
use language as a tool for inquiry and meaning-making through investigation and storytelling
participate in unstructured, imaginative play, and building language skills while they explore the natural world around them.
