Each summer, the Environmental Learning Center continues to offer our most beloved camp activities while also adding new and exciting elements that will spark your child’s sense of wonder, creativity, and love for our unique ecosystem. We offer immersive experiences for children entering kindergarten through 9th grade that are hands-on, feet-wet, and encourage outdoor exploration using different scientific tools on the ELC’s campus. The ELC’s action-packed camps are a perfect way to keep your child’s body, mind, and spirit active during the summer months while making new lifelong friends.

 

New 2020 Camps include: Nature Art Camp, Wilderness Survival Skills Camp, Shelter Building Camp, Bio Builders, Aquatic Quest and MORE! See below for details.

Our accomplished and dynamic environmental educators have created different activities that include everything from unique nature-themed scavenger hunts and crafts, pond dip-netting, mangrove forest exploration, touch tank encounters, and interactive story time to canoeing, pontoon boat trips to explore uninhabited lagoon islands, snorkeling, and even state of the art environmental exploration activities that utilize different technologies. The Environmental Learning Center’s summer day camp programs have something for everyone!

For responsible high school students who enjoy nature and working with children, the ELC also offers exciting camp counselor volunteer opportunities available through the GreenTeen! program.

SENSEational Summer 

Age: Entering 1st - 4th grade in fall 2020
Camp Length: 3 days 
Hours: 8:30am-4pm

The perfect start to your child’s summer! During this three-day camp, children will activate their senses as they explore the ELC’s lagoon island campus through different hands-on, feet-wet activities from pond dip-netting and canoe quick trips, to exciting nature scavenger hunts and craft projects, all while getting a chance to meet some of our favorite lagoon-island creatures!


Dates: June 3-5 

Young Explorers

Age: Entering Kindergarten & 1st grade fall 2020 (already attended pre-k)
Camp Length: 5 days 
Hours: 8:30am-1pm -half / 8:30am-4pm -full

Campers will be introduced to animals, plants & the great outdoors! Young Explorers enjoy nature themed scavenger hunts & crafts, ELC campus adventures that include touch tank encounters, bug & butterfly exploration, & we’ll even wade into our pond for an exciting dip-netting activity.

Our Living World

Age: Entering 2nd & 3rd grade in fall 2020
Camp Length: 5 days

Campers will explore animals’ habitats & become environmental stewards! Adventuring through our living world along the Indian River Lagoon, campers will enjoy age appropriate scavenger hunts & nature crafts, touch tank encounters, become scat & track experts, & learn to seine net for a wide diversity of critters in the lagoon.

Aquatic Quest

Age: Entering 1st - 3rd grade in fall 2020
Camp Length: 3 days 
Hours: 8:30am-4pm

Young water-lovers will engage in 3 exciting days of aquatic-themed adventure! Campers will enjoy different pond activities, canoe quick trips through a mangrove tree forest, seine-netting in the Indian River Lagoon, & oyster reef investigation as they explore different bodies of water & the interesting & unique creatures that can be found living in these aquatic habitats!

Art Camp I

Age: Entering 1st - 4th grade in fall 2020
Camp Length: 5 days

The ELC’s lagoon island campus is the perfect place for your young Picasso to discover their creativity & artistic expression! Young nature and art enthusiasts will explore a world of different colors, shapes, forms, and textures found in our very special and unique Indian River Lagoon ecosystem through different activities and art mediums.

End of Summer Bash I

Age: Entering 1st – 4th grade in ​fall 2020
Camp Length: 5 days

A hodgepodge of all the most beloved camp favorites, this week is a sure way for your child to end the summer with a bang and get their mind ready for school! Throughout the week, campers will enjoy different activities from pond dip-netting and canoe quick trips, to exciting nature scavenger hunts and craft projects, all while getting a chance to meet some of our favorite lagoon-island creatures!


Dates: August 3-7

Bio Builders

Age: Entering 1st - 4rd grade in fall 2020
Camp Length: 5 days 
Hours: 8:30am-4pm

In addition to all of the ELC camp-favorites including canoe quick trips, seine-netting, benthic ecology activities, learning teamwork & making new friends, campers will also explore natural, animal & man-made shelters.  Learn about the fascinating animal builders, from birds to oysters, who create their homes and habitats.  Campers will also create different shelters and practice building skills.

Survivor Camp

Director's Cut

Age: Entering 5th - 9th grade in fall 2020
Camp Length: 3 days 
Hours: 8:30am-4pm

What would you do if you were stranded in the middle of nowhere?! Learn survival tips & techniques to stay alive in the wilderness of the nation’s hottest state in this abbreviated version of the 5 day Survivor camp! Our survivalists will learn how to locate & purify water, build & start a fire, create shelter, identify common wild edible plants, read weather & nature signs, use a compass, & so much more! On the final day of camp, we’ll test our newfound survivalist skills during a canoe trip adventure along the Indian River Lagoon.

Imagineering STEAM I

Age: Entering 4th – 6th grade in ​fall 2020
Camp Length: 5 days

In this STEAM focused camp "imagineers" will take their outdoor exploration, imaginations, & fun to the next level! Our campers will enjoy different exciting outdoor activities that incorporate Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math, from recording natural sounds, to testing water quality & even building their very own ROVs! Imagineers will learn how to use different technologies to collect data on land & under water that help scientists evaluate the health of different habitats.

Age: Entering 7th - 9th grade in fall 2020
Camp Length: 5 days

Imagineers will explore the foundations of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math through the power of water.  Our campers will enjoy different exciting outdoor activities that will bring them closer to their surrounding aquatic environment. Utilizing our local natural resources students will learn about waves, test the water quality of the IRL, build ROVs & so much more!

Island Adventure

Age: Entering 4th & 5th grade in fall 2020
Camp Length: 3 days 
Hours: 8:30am-4pm

Our adventurers will enjoy an action packed 3 days of island adventure fun!  As an abbreviated version of Week on the Water I, campers will master water safety, enjoy a little pool & beach time, learn wildlife observation techniques on a canoeing trip, take a pontoon boat excursion to explore an uninhabited lagoon island, & much much more!

Week on the Water I

Age: Entering 4th & 5th grade in fall 2020
Camp Length: 5 days 
Hours: 8:30am-4:00pm

Our H2O enthusiasts will participate in 5 days of water safety, pool time, canoeing, a pontoon boat excursion to explore an uninhabited lagoon island, observation of Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge, seine-netting, benthic ecology, & conservation activities along with beach & inlet exploration! On the final day of camp, family members can join us for an ice-cream social, camper skits, & a photo slideshow of all the fun we had together at camp.

Week on the Water II

Age: Entering 6th – 8th grade in fall 2020
Camp Length: 5 days 
Hours: 8:30am-4pm

Our H2O enthusiasts will participate in 5 days of water safety, pool time, canoeing, a pontoon boat excursion to explore an uninhabited lagoon island, observation of Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge, seine-netting, benthic ecology, elevated conservation activities, beach exploration, & snorkeling at the Sebastian Inlet! On the final day of camp, family members can join us for an ice-cream social, camper skits, & a photo slideshow of all the fun we had at camp.

Marine Safari

Campers will enjoy an action packed 3 days of marine safari fun!  As an abbreviated version of Week on the Water II, safari-goers will master water safety, enjoy a little pool & beach time, learn wildlife observation techniques on a canoeing trip, enjoy a pontoon boat excursion to explore an uninhabited lagoon island, & observe underwater life while snorkeling in the beautiful Sebastian Inlet.

Survivor Camp:

Extended Version

Age: Entering 5th – 9th grade in​ fall 2020
Camp Length: 5 days 
Hours: 8:30am-4pm 

ELC Member: $330 | Non-member: $365

(Price includes a take-home knapsack with survivalist equipment)

 Learn survival tips & techniques to stay alive in the wilderness of the nation’s hottest state during this extended 5 day adventure! Campers will get unique opportunities to practice their new skills when we take a pontoon boat trip to an uninhabited lagoon island and a canoeing adventure along the Indian River Lagoon! Shelter Camp

Age: Entering 5th – 9th grade in​ fall 2020
Camp Length: 5 days 
Hours: 8:30am - 1pm 

ELC Member: $180 half day/$250 full day

Non-member: $200 half day/$280 full day
 

In addition to all of the ELC camp-favorites including canoeing, seine-netting, benthic ecology activities, learning teamwork & making new friends, campers will also explore natural, animal & man-made shelters.  A portion of our time together will be spent working on a special group building project. Our campers will have a one-of-a-kind experience to use tools to design & construct a structure that will be permanently placed in a special play area on the ELC’s campus. No experience necessary to enjoy this week of fun & adventure!

Art Camp II

Age: Entering 5th – 9th grade in​ fall 2020
Camp Length: 5 days 
Hours: 8:30am - 1pm

Our up and coming Claude Monets will explore the art and personal journals of early naturalists, while also enjoying inspiring workshops to help develop their very own unique powers of observation. Through outdoor exploration, our creators will draw, paint, print & photograph the flora & fauna that makes our awe-inspiring mangrove island so special. Utilizing multiple different mediums, each day will focus on the techniques of various naturalists who helped show the world all of the beauty & wonder that can be found in nature.

End of Summer Bash II

Each camp must fill to a minimum capacity of 8 campers per session. If camp does not fill to minimum capacity, you will have the option to switch your child into a different camp session or receive a full refund.
