LAGOON
ACADEMY

Nature-based Homeschool Program for Students Age 7-12

We offer immersive sensory environmental education experiences that are hands-on, feet-wet, and encourage outdoor exploration using scientific tools on the ELC’s lagoon island campus. All ELC education programs are STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) oriented and integrate Sunshine State Standards. Our programs are led by experienced environmental education professionals with a passion for outdoor and experiential learning.

Lagoon Academy features monthly programs which include 4 sessions that focus on specific topics. Each month we explore different aspects of ELC’s island lagoon campus through environmental education programming that incorporates hands-on, science-based activities.

Tuesdays in May starts 4/30 or Wednesdays in May starts 5/1 sessions with some exceptions.

Maximum of 15 students per program

$90 for all 4 sessions

10AM-12PM

Classes are outdoors at ELC and may also include field trips and excursions.

TOP 5 REASONS YOUR STUDENTS SHOULD PARTICIPATE IN OUR STEM-ORIENTED ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS:

  1. Take the classroom outside! Outdoor learning produces higher grades in all disciplines, better health, improved overall behavior and decreased stress levels

  2. STEM education equips children with the knowledge and skills to solve tough problems, gather and evaluate evidence, and make sense of information

  3. Hands-on learning allows children to take the concepts they’ve learned in the classroom and actively apply them to real life scenarios for improved understanding

  4. The future is STEM. The number of STEM-related jobs continues to drastically increase, and access to quality STEM education is necessary to spark our youth’s interests in pursuing these career path

  5. It’s FUN! Even your most indifferent student will be focused and engaged in our programs as we dive deep into the Indian River Lagoon, North America’s most bio-diverse estuary!
